Preeminent celebrity photographer Firooz Zahedi, known for his clever portraits and witty cutting-edge style, presents his quieter, contemplative side in his upcoming exhibition “Other Works” at the G. Ray Hawkins Gallery, Santa Monica.
Working repeatedly with stars ranging from Meryl Streep and Robert DeNiro to Jodie Foster, Zahedi’s editorial work, including covers, has appeared in Vanity Fair, InStyle, Time,The New Yorker, and numerous others. Zahedi is also responsible for the iconographic images of films such as Pulp Fiction, The Addams Family I & II, Edward Scissorhands, Mickey Blue Eyes and more.
Recently featured in MOMA’s exhibition “Fame after Photography”, a collection which explores the ever-evolving art of celebrity portraiture, Zahedi blurs the distinctions between pop and fine art.
In this exhibition “Other Works” -- made in the quieter moments of this successful celebrity photographer’s life -- we clearly see the mastery of Zahedi’s eye and his highly stylized sense of design. A graduate of the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C., his flower and nude studies reflect the moodiness of classical photography combined with his own sophisticated modern sensibility. In these large, exquisitely printed iris prints, light, line and form blend into sensuality, giving us a glimpse into a world created of grace and elegance.
