Eclectic contemporary painter Deborah Paswaters re-emerges at Marion Meyer Contemporary Art with her new exhibition “Light”, beginning November 7. A celebration of new canvases and painted windows reminiscent of her earlier “Realm” imagery, Paswaters returns to her style of interplay between male and female figures set against a backdrop of intriguing abstract color form. As in her earlier work, the figures remain undefined except in gesture and form, thus inviting the viewer to interpret the meaning as created by an immediacy which has become the artist’s trademark style.
Meyer has curated an interesting display exhibiting not only smaller canvases by Paswaters, but also a series of the artist’s window paintings. Unusual in concept but readily understandable, Paswaters creates a multitude of small works that juxtapose within the frames of vintage multi-paned window casements. Each frame vibrates with color, silhouette and gesture and this new series of work is some of the artist’s strongest to date. Rarely seen on display, these new window paintings by Paswaters are a must see for patrons of the artist’s work.
The show will open with a reception for the artist on First Thursday, November 7, 6-9pm. On December 5 at 7 pm, there will be a “Celebration of Light”, with a special performance by Deborah Paswaters’ own Mandala Danceworks to complement the contemporary canvasses and painted windows. The artist also will be joining in the holiday celebration from 6-9pm, Thursday, December 5.
