“My paintings are like destinations that are reached by traveling through memories, thoughts and dreams. I create visual places that reflect specific moments in time. Painting is a way for me to confront the mystery of life and discover the beauty of living.”

Paula Schoen is rapidly gaining recognition as a versatile and talented artist who touches others with the energy and beauty of her work.

She grew up surrounded by drawing materials and large sheets of blue prints, brought home from her father’s engineering office. Her artistic skills were quickly noticed and encouraged through specialized art classes and visits to the many museums in New York, Washington D.C. and Philadelphia. Before graduating from high school, she was awarded a fellowship to study at the prestigious Chautauqua Institution, School of Art.

Ms. Schoen was accepted to the San Francisco Art Institute where she studied painting and sculpture. In 1975, the Bay Area was the perfect place to experiment with new ideas and collaborate with other artists. She spent several years producing and exhibiting artwork before graduating with a degree in Fine Art from the University of California at Berkeley in 1979. Ms. Schoen has instructed students at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois and lectures at the San Francisco School of Art.

Ms. Schoen’s work is characterized by it’s purity and simplicity of expression. Her strong sense of composition is beautifully balanced by a delicate use of line and color. Her images capture an emotionally charged moment of discovery that offers a unique meaning for each individual.

Ms. Schoen currently resides at her art studio in Southern California. She is continually exploring new mediums and concepts in her work. In addition to perfecting her skills as a painter, Ms. Schoen creates mixed media constructions and linoleum block prints. Her work is currently shown in galleries within the United States and Europe, as well as many private and corporate collections.
