Ruth Gonzales volunteered for missionary work throughout eastern and western Mexico from 1984 until 1990. During this period painting and art continued to be her personal goal.
Her paintings reflect the work of an artist through years of reflection and working in solitude has developed imagery steeped in metaphorical allusion and spiritual density reminiscent of the field paintings of Rothko. Her work goes far beyond the simple field both in the complexity of the application of color, often executed in numerous translucent layers creating a pentimento surface, and in suggestions of a horizon, a sun or a moon.
Born in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico and educated at the Academia de Artes, Universidad de Sonora, Mexico.
