David Rubin was first influenced by the late Surrealist Gordon Onslow Ford, who articulated a philosophy which has guided Rubin through his life and careeer: keep moving forward, like the swimmer who is blind and doesn’t know what lies ahead, but is fearlessly willing to go on the adventure. As a result he turned to curatorial work, landing a series of positions that has carried him from university galleries, to contemporary art centers, and major museums.
