presented by the Miracle Mile Players, Inc.

TarFest is a festival of emerging film, music and art held annually since 2003 at the La Brea Tar Pits and the surrounding Museum Row in the historic Miracle Mile district of Los Angeles.  This popular festival presents an opportunity for artists in Los Angeles to gain creative exposure in the geographical and cultural center of the city while also enriching the public.   TarFest was founded on the principles that art and culture can create vibrant communities and that quality artists grow and succeed when they have many opportunities—at all stages of their development—to perform for and exhibit their work to diverse audiences.  This year, TarFest Art Show, juried by LACMA’s Howard Fox, will open at the Korean Cultural Center, 5505 Wilshire Blvd., on Friday, October 3rd from 6 – 10pm. On Saturday, October 4th, TarFest Film Festival will also be held at the Korean Cultural Center. TarFest Music Program will be held at The El Rey Theatre Saturday night at 7pm.

A new component of TarFest Weekend, the inaugural Miracle Mile Run, will be held on Sunday, October 5th.  This one-mile foot race on Wilshire Blvd. begins at Sycamore Ave. and finishes in front of the Grand Entrance to LACMA followed by community activities on it’s renovated campus.  Proceeds from the run will benefit local community arts and fitness programs as well as LACMA’s Next Gen program which serves local children and their parents.

TarFest Film Festival

This year’s film program will include two one-hour blocks of programming. The first block will feature music videos from filmmakers all over the country. The entries will be judged on innovation and creativity in the music video genre.  The second block will screen "SHORTS" of five minutes or less featuring a diverse range of styles and storytelling.  The shorts will be judged on all-around filmmaking and concept.  TarFest strongly encourages L.A. filmmakers to submit and join us in celebrating their works the night of October 4th, 2008 at the Korean Cultural Center, 5505 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, 90036.

This years program is being curated by Los Angeles based production and motion graphics studio, AB5TRAX.

SHORT SHORTS 5 MINUTES OR LESS
We love short films, but unfortunately they often run 13 minutes long.  For this category, we're looking for your best work UNDER 5 minutes. It can be a narrative, animation, documentary, experimental, spec spots or whatever... but it must be under 5 minutes.  Any films exceeding that time limit WILL NOT be considered.

MUSIC VIDEOS
This category is intended to feature music videos that are innovative and creative.
