Rohrer Fine Art is pleased to present “Fifteen Minutes of Fame,” an exhibition of works by Andy Warhol, and photographs of Marilyn Monroe and iconic images of the Sixties by noted photographer, Lawrence Schiller. The exhibition opens with a reception January 12 from 5 to 7pm and runs through February 23. Mr. Schiller will be in attendance at the opening reception.
The Sixties: ten years that began with optimism and ended in chaos. It was a decade of extremes, from the Sexual Revolution to the Vietnam War, and the Civil Rights Movement to the assassinations of JFK and Martin Luther King, Jr.
Against this backdrop of political turmoil, American culture was redefining celebrity status, and no one embodied that more than Marilyn Monroe. She was the angel of sex, and everyman’s love affair. In contrast, Andy Warhol who was as much a celebrity as those in his bitter sweet portraits, used color, composition, and graphic rendering to reveal the raw mythology and commercialization of fame. And it was Andy Warhol who predicted the future when he said that “everyone will be famous for fifteen minutes,” a prophecy that, between reality TV and the Internet, has been fulfilled.

“Fifteen Minutes of Fame” will include paintings and silkscreen works by Warhol and photographs of Marilyn just before her death in 1962. Also on display will be platinum prints of Schiller’s images of 1960s politicians and celebrities: Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Joe DiMaggio, Clint Eastwood, Robert Redford, Paul Newman and Barbara Streisand.
