I-5 Gallery at The Brewery is pleased to feature "Primarily Red", an exhibition exploring the symbolic, physical, emotional, spiritual, and visual aspects of the color red. The 32 artists were selected by Meg Linton, Director of the Ben Maltz Gallery and Public Programs at Otis College of Art + Design. She has over ten years of curatorial experience; has written, edited and produced over 20 publications; and is passionate about working with contemporary artists.
According to Meg Linton, "This show addresses aesthetic, social, and political issues through abstraction and figuration within a variety of media: painting, photography, assemblage and more. RED is a strong choice for an approach to this type of exhibition. It is a potent color one of seduction, lust, and power. It speaks of the vital blood flowing through our veins, the cycles of the moon, and the emotions of our hearts. It is a color used by royalty. It is the color of half of our government. It is the primary color of war. There are many voices in this show and all of them have an independent message wrapped around a powerful visual trigger".
The exhibition is organized and sponsored by the Southern Califronia Women's Caucus for Art.
