Anyone looking honestly at life will see that we live in a constant state of suspense and ambiguity.  Our minds perpetually shift in and out of confusion/clarity, bewilderment/insight, sanity/insanity. . .In “Dancing in the Flames”, Marcos Alvarez, Zig Gron and Gina Stepaniuk individually probe the depths of self to explore the environment wherein the paradox of confusion and wisdom arise simultaneously.

Marcos Alvarez grew up in Miami and graduated with honors from The Cooper Union in NYC with a BARCH.  He has been working as an artist for the last 15 years, and has been in Los Angeles since 1994. In Los Angeles, he has exhibited at Gallery 825/LAAA, Fresh stART at the Santa Monica Museum, Pasadena City College, Andrewshire Gallery, Miller Durazo Gallery, among others.

After graduating with an MFA from CalArts, Zig Gron has worked as a music editor for feature films while making “video art” on the side.  His videos have won numerous awards and have been screened at various venues including the Dallas Video Festival, the Montreal International Film & Video Festival, the Chicago International Film Festival, and the Chicago Underground Film Festival, the Millennium, Exit Art and the Knitting Factory (in New York), and the Pacific Film Archives in Berkeley.

Gina Stepaniuk received a BFA from Ontario College of Art in Canada. Living in Los Angeles since 1989 she worked as a set decorator in the film industry, and continued making paintings.  Her unique works have been exhibited at various galleries including Gallery 825/LAAA, Long Beach Arts, Square Blue Gallery, Venice Artwalk, as well as several solo exhibitions including Patricia Correia Gallery at Bergamot Station.  She is active in LA’s art community as board president of Gallery 825/LAAA and has taught visual arts at LAUSD magnet school Inner-City Arts.
