SILVERLAKE, CA Metro Gallery celebrates the opening of the third exhibit, “Five Approaches to. . .” An opening reception will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2005, from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and will highlight over 40 original artworks of Renee Amitai, Marisa Caichiolo, Susan Gallant, Ricardo Garcia, and Polina Perl. The exhibit will run from November 19, 2005, to December 31, 2005.
The art show will consist of various abstract and figurative paintings and ceramics created by five artists from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Through collaboration with guest curator, Agnieszka Miziolek, Metro Gallery will feature works of Renee Amitai, Marisa Caichiolo, Susan Gallant, Ricardo Garcia, and Polina Perl. “Coming from Poland, I am excited working with so many talented international artists living in Los Angeles,” says Agnieszka Miziolek. “Living in such diversity, artists have the power to influence people to expand their minds as well as to learn from the diversity of our population. “
The presented artworks will consist of styles that are unique in how each artist approaches abstract and figurative art. Gallery owner, David Freire says, “It is fascinating to see these artists exhibit works that reflect human emotion, spirituality and life. With the recent number of world events that have devastated so many lives throughout the globe, it is inspiring to see these artists moved to create works translated through the language of art.”
About the Artists
Renee Amitai graduated from the "Ecole Des Beaux Arts De Paris", France, and has exhibited in Hawaii, Nevada and Texas in the U.S.A, and internationally in France, Israel, England, Korea, and Japan, Russia and Germany. Her works have been displayed in several galleries in Los Angeles, as well as the Bing Gallery at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Renee's distinctive style and approach is evident in her newest series of works.
Marisa Caichiolo studied fine art and psychology at the University of Buenos Aires, in Argentina. Her works have been showcased in Brazil, Mexico, and Japan as well as in New York, Long Beach and Los Angeles, within the United States. Marisa's work infuses elements of mysticism, interests in ancestral colors and symbolism. Combining various techniques and styles, she often allows her work images and forms to fluctuate between realism and surrealism.
Susan Gallant studied graphic arts at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School of Visual Arts. Susan has been an artist for over thirty years, sharing her artistic talents and working with various communities to develop their artistic abilities and facilitate recovery from drug addiction, alcoholism and homelessness. Incorporating abstract to figurative styles to mono printing, Susan is especially noted for her profound use of color.
Ricardo Garcia has been an artist for over seven years and has exhibited his work in Miami, El Paso, Los Angeles, and Mexico City. His unique style and approach to each painting has gained him a recognizable name among the Latino art community, being one of the youngest painters to exhibit works in Museo de Imba and the Museo de Chamizal in Juarez. Utilizing both expressionist and figurative approaches to painting, Ricardo's work evokes many emotions.
Polina Perl studied fashion at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, before moving to Los Angeles. She began experimenting with clay since 2001. Originally, from Riga, Latvia, Polina finds inspiration to work with clay from her observations of [the] natural changes on various surfaces. Polina is a member of the American Ceramic Society, Southern California Section as well as the Vessel Studio. She has recently exhibited her work at the Clay Gallery in Venice, as well as the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood.
