LMAN gallery will begin its new Fall program with an exhibition of paintings and photographs by KATE NICHOLS entitled SOLIDITY undermined. The exhibition opens on Saturday, September 10th, with a reception from 6 until 9 p.m., and closes on November 26th.
From time to time, we may discover such talent who compels us to share the artist achievements with those who are interested in a fresh look at contemporary art. It is the kind of work that can cross boundary of cultures and inspire others. In our seemingly more and more divisive world, we find it appropriate to depart from our stated mission to showcase the artworks of a young non-Asian artist who recently graduated with a fine arts degree from the mid-west. This will be her first solo exhibit in a commercial gallery.
SOLIDITY undermined includes series of figurative paintings and photographs as well as abstract images. According to Nichols, "I am continually finding correlations between my activities as a dancer and a painter: both require the use of my body as a tool for expression, and both elicit an intuitive response to a defined space. Most importantly, both inspire a reverence for and a revelry in the human body.." The end result of her artworks defines the poetic presence of human conditions, from happiness to sadness, from sensuousness to spirituality, and from being solid to becoming illusive.
