LOS ANGELES - The I-5 Gallery is proud to present "3 Painters." This exhibition showcases the diversity and ultimate connections of three unique contemporary Los Angeles painters. An opening reception will take place on Saturday, September 11 from 7 to 10 p.m.
A face, a leaf, a line... all appear to be unrelated. Is there a connection? Must there be a connection? There is, but you may not see it if you judge too quickly. The linkage exists more in what is not seen, than what is seen.
Paint is a metaphor for the invisible life energy which manifests itself visibly in infinite ways. Linsley Lambert, Jill Sykes and Ann Thornycroft, alchemists of paint, are fascinated with paint's possibilities - its lushness, texture, power of color - and animate it into their own unique imagery. The work in this show symbolizes the three inter-related aspects of life - the material, the spiritual and the unity of the two.
Additionally, the paintings here represent life through art's progression: from realism, to abstracted reality, to pure abstraction. Lambert piles glaze upon glaze to form strongly modeled psychological portraits, Sykes conjures botanical silhouettes through lush, delicious layerings, and Thornycroft utilizes drips, line and color fields to create beautiful and dynamic abstractions.
The linkage is more than conceptual.
The exhibit runs September 11 - 26 at the I-5 Gallery, located inside the Brewery Art Colony, 2100 North Main Street, #A9. Thanks to the generous support of the Carlson Industries, LLC.
Viewing hours are Friday - Sunday, 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and by appointment; call the I-5 Gallery at 323.342.0717 for more information.
