How the Earth Might End
We know that when things have a beginning, they usually must have an ending. Though to us it seems the earth has been here forever, and will continue forever, an ending will probably come to it someday. Scientists have several theories of how this might happen. We will mention only two theories here.
We spoke before of the asteroids in the space between Mars and Jupiter that may be fragments of a tenth planet once traveling around the sun. It is possible some star crashed into this planet, smashing it in a tremendous explosion. Our earth could, someday, be the target for such a collision.
Another possibility is that in about three to ten thousand million years (3- 10,000,000,000 years) some change might take place inside the sun, causing it to blow up. Then waves of fiery gas engulf and sear the earth beyond recognition.
These accidents could happen. But many think they won’t. And even if they do happen, it will be countless billions of years after our lifetime. So you don’t need to worry about it at all, and you can go on enjoying this beautiful earth of ours and all the wonders of the universe.
