Wayne Shimabukuro
A third generation native of Los Angeles, Wayne Shimabukuro is a reflection of his environment. Educated in Los Angeles, he was influenced by artists with whom he studied at Barnsdall Junior Art Center, Otis Art Institute, and UCLA. With this background, he developed an intimate and informed relationship within the local art scene. Artists as subjects for his camera are of enduring fascination to him. During the 20 and more years of his involvement in this portrait project, he has seen the art community develop in significant ways. These photographs offer an insider’s view into the contemporary L. A. art scene. His work reveals his strong interest in the creative process, community and culture. His innate talent for composition, his graphic facility and his empathy with artistic temperament create strong and lasting work. His artists portraits are in the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Huntington Library and Art Gallery, and The Getty Research Institute. His work is also widely published.
ANDLAB showcases work by contemporary artists in its gallery. The art exhibition space stems from the notion of the “ laboratory” embodying the spirit of creativity that facilitate artists to experiment and to explore in ways to promote new discoveries. It also acts as a forum for the presentation of ideas through its range of lectures, concerts, and discussions. ANDLAB, in its mission to foster curiosity and knowledge, offers a variety of educational opportunities and creative developments through its selection of art and design classes and projects.
