Kirk Stoller, Basement Stack Resized
I-5 Gallery at the Brewery Art Complex is pleased to present The Opening Band, an exhibition featuring the work of five new MFAs from the University of California at Berkeley: Laura Ball, Amy Harrison, Andrew Martin, Molly Springfield, and Kirk Stoller.
Although they work in a range of media from straight-up drawing and painting to sculptural and video installations these five artists are united by their autobiographical inclinations. Mining the raw material of personal memory and experience, they yield idiosyncratic riffs on themes as diverse as femininity, the materiality of language, and the fragility of the natural world.
In a sense, each of these artists looks back, in content and concept, even as they look forward to the infinite possibilities of reinventing artmaking.
The I-5 Gallery is located in the atrium of the Brewery Art Complex in downtown Los Angeles, one block from Interstate 5 (Main Street exit). Gallery hours are Fri-Sun, 12-5 pm. For directions and additional information, please visit <http:www.theopeningband.com> or contact <theopeningband@bust.com>.
