Ke Francis “Amazing Grace Maze”, 2003, acrylic on canvas, four panels, 72 x 240 inches.
Bill Lowe Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of new work by Southern artists Ke Francis and Andrew Saftel, each of whom engage in their own distinctive style of “yarn-spinning” through multiple types of media.
Master printmaker Ke Francis evokes the tragic effects of disaster, while simultaneously celebrating the resiliency of the human spirit, all within imagery which bears the artist’s marks of their creation.
“Collectively, Francis’ work can be seen as an attempt to represent that psychic landscape that is the mental space of the human mind; it is an attempt to show that while it is littered with trauma and pleasure, despair and hope, through the creative will anything is possible.”
-Howard Risatti, Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art History, Virginia Commonwealth University
Painter and sculptor Andrew Saftel chronicles his own personal and artistic journey while simultaneously evoking the passage of humanity within modern civilization through his mixed media constructions on wood panel, which incorporate found objects that have an aura of historical significance.
This exhibit will also feature new work by Southern figurative ceramicist Debra Fritts, and Southern artist Polly Cook, who creates stunning mosaics of painted ceramic tile on wood panel.
Please join us Friday, June 15, for a celebration of this new work, including light fare, wine, and dancers. Both artists will be present for the festivities. Please contact the gallery for further information.
