Kirtland Ash – Color Strips
Vertical, fine lines painted meticulously on canvas become a hypnotic blurred image of color when viewed from a distance. A true abstract artist, Ash works only in shapes, his earlier work focusing on circles but more recently exploring the essence of line.  Color is key – the hues pop in bold tones while the neutrals help soften. The precise lines are contained and controlled, ebbing and flowing, vibrating against one another.

A self taught artist, Kirtland Ash was born in Portland, Oregon and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia.  He currently lives and works in Los Angeles. Ash’s work is in the private collections of actor Keanu Reeves and Ken Jordan of Chrystal Method.  Paul Foss of artUS Magazine writes, “Yayoi Kusama once drove the world dotty, but now Kirtland Ash has come along to give everyone the strips."

SIX – Summer Group Exhibition 2007
Beat the heat with Gallery C’s flirtiest summer exhibition yet. The undeniably feminine artists in “six” combine sweet candy hues and vibrant brights to create juicy artwork – ripe for the picking.  With the focus on feminist and female created art this year, the opening of the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art and the groundbreaking records set by “Wack!  Art and the Feminist Revolution” at MoCA, the women artists in “six” demonstrate what it means to be feminine and feminist today.  “six” features art by Lisa Adams, Lori Cozen-Geller, Kyoung Ha Yoo, Cristy Thom, Trine Wejp-Olsen and Jean Wolff.
