Art Murmur Gallery is pleased to present “Metroscapes,”
Given the current interest in artistic visions of 21st century urbanity, as well as transformations occurring across downtown and metropolitan Los Angeles, mounting an urbanscape show is in keeping with Art Murmur’s mission of exploring culturally and politically relevant themes. The ongoing controversies and questions surrounding the remaking of Los Angeles only add to the interest and importance of this artistic enquiry.
The following artists will be participating in the “Metroscapes” exhibition:
Len Davis (L.A.) - collage and installation utilizing the detritus of urbanity;
Fallenfruit (L.A.) - digitally manipulated photography of Los Angeles landmarks with political, cultural and sexual commentary;
Leandra Hinrichs (L.A.) - photorealistic acrylic works with citations of California Light and Space, infused with abstraction;
David Jonason (L.A.) stylized portraits of Los Angeles’ historical and geographical landmarks;
J’Brenta Jordan (Taos, NM) - angular diptych paintings of well known downtown Los Angeles buildings;
Daniel Kempton (L.A.) - installation and sculpture exploring idiosyncratic aspects of the urban terrain;
David Knudsen (L.A.) - large-scale, vibrant, abstract photographs of Los Angeles architecture and city lights at night;
Olga Lubacz (Warsaw, Poland) - acrylic on canvas studies of urban living, privileging intimacy and distorted perspective;
Marco Menendez (El Salvador/Philadelphia) - oil on aluminum works as shadowy, mysterious evocations of the city at night;
Janna Stern (L.A.) - digitally manipulated mixed media collages of urban images in juxtaposition with pop iconography;
Michael Ward (Orange County) - contemporary genre paintings of urban and suburban Los Angeles; and
Yoffy (L.A.) - pop inspired skylines of major American cities in bright, innocuous pastel shades of pink, lavender and peach.
Art Murmur remains dedicated to showcasing a wide range of contemporary artists from the United States and abroad, in provocative thematic shows. In addition to fine art sales and leasing, resident artists are available for commissions. Finally, Art Murmur Gallery is committed to supporting the downtown Los Angeles revival and enhancing the cultural life of increasing numbers of inner city dwellers.
