DAG, located near Downtown Gallery Row, and part of the monthly Downtown Art Walk, proudly opened its doors on October 2004 with a vision to revive and awaken the lost art of traditional print making, and educate collectors about not only its visceral emotional quality but its technically impressive and arduous process that’s remained virtually unchanged since the time of Durer and Rembrandt. The post-modern age of technology has given us digital reproduction, and while it has its advantages, the masterly and commanding presence of traditional print making has been nearly obliterated. DAG is deeply committed to the tutelage and guardianship, and most importantly, furtherance of the age-old print making traditions, exhibiting world class print makers in various media such as etching, aquatint, woodcut, along side, modern techniques in multimedia; representing acclaimed South American artists such as Rufino Tamayo, Fernando de Szyszio, Mario Londono, Venancio Arribas, Agostino Zaliani, Will Kismer, Juan Rosillo, Jose Luis Cuevas, and Richard Duardo, and French artists, Pascal Giraudon and Christophe Leroux. DAG has offered works by Roberta Matta, Joe Piasentin, David Alfaro Siqueiros, and Donald Sultan.
In addition, DAG is also committed to the development of cultural and aesthetic community of downtown Los Angeles, and faithful in the creation and development of a distinctive community outreach program for inner city youth and young adults. DAG envisions a new generation of citizens who are enriched by their exposure to the arts. DAG is proud to launch a distinctive community program, called DAG Hamlet, focused on improving the cultural life of the community in downtown. Some facets of the program are specifically designed at exposing high school students to important aspects of culture, mainly music and visual arts to expand their horizons; while other facets are designed at educating adults and members of the community through various hands-on and interactive events.
